Hélène in Verdi’s ‘Les Vêpres Siciliennes’ at Bayerische Staatsoper
Rachel Willis-Sørensen returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper to reprise her portrayal of the noblewoman and Sicilian partisan, Hélène, in Verdi’s Les Vêpres Siciliennes.
With performances on November 10, 13, 18, & 20. Ms. Willis-Sørensen shares the stage with a sparkling group of artists, including Helena Zubanovich as Ninetta, Bryan Hymel as Henri, Dimitri Platanias as Guy de Montfort, Erwin Schrott as Procida, among others. Paolo Carignani conducts the Bavarian State Orchestra and Choir of the Bavarian State Opera. Earlier this year, Rachel Willis-Sørensen received critical acclaim for her debut as Hélène at the Bayerische Staatsoper:
“Above all Rachel Willis-Sörensen as Hélène, who brilliantly understands how to lend drama to her voice, which is by nature rather delicate. She is already at home in the demanding highs and coloraturas.” (BR-Klassik)
“Her performance was for me the best of the cast, singing with a powerful voice, well timed and with taste, standing out in the second part of the opera…” (Beckmesser)
“An international ensemble was called up. Rachel Willis-Sørensen has the noblesse for Hélène, certainty in coloratura, lyrical sensitivity, dramatic attack…” (Schwäbische)
