Dvořák Stabat Mater
Ms. Willis-Sørensen will be making her city debut in Boston with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as she performs in Dvořák’s Stabat Mater in February. This will also be a role debut for the soprano – the first of two Dvořák role debuts this season. In June, she will make her debut singing the title role in Rusalka with the San Francisco Opera. This Stabat Mater will be conducted by Boston Symphony Orchestra music director Andris Nelsons, whom Ms. Willis-Sørensen previously worked with in London when performing the Marschallin in Die Rosenkavalier at the Royal Opera House. She is delighted to work with him again on this new project.
This piece was written in response to the death of Dvořák’s three children, and is sung in the traditional Latin. Dmytro Popov is the tenor soloist, Violeta Urmana is the mezzo soloist, and Ain Anger the bass soloist. Performed on three consecutive days, February 28th, March 1st and 2nd, tickets and additional information can be found here.
