A Return to the Semperoper Dresden for Der Rosenkavalier

From superb comedic timing to melancholic acceptance of her plight, Rachel Willis-Sørensen reprises the role of the Marschallin, the field commander’s wife, in Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, at the Semperoper in Dresden, Germany, where she is an ensemble member. In this favored role, Rachel reminds us of her absolute command of character, technique, and nuance. She is relatable as an aging woman who is facing the daunting challenge of youthful competition in both love and beauty. Bringing resolve and unanticipated, principled clarity in the end, Rachel joins in a glorious, if not bittersweet finale with Christine Bock as Octavion and Nikola Hillerbrand as Sophie. The obnoxious Baron Ochs is played by Albert Pesendorfer. Musical direction is under Nikolai Szeps-Znaider. There are two performances: October 12 and 17th.
