I Vespri Siciliani at the Wiener Staatsoper
To begin the new year, Ms. Willis-Sørensen makes a return to the Wiener Staatsoper once again this season to perform the role of Elena in the Italian version of Verdi’s I Vespri Siciliani. She first performed the role of Hélène in the French version (Les Vêpres Siciliennes) in 2018 at the Bayerische Staatsoper and was praised by BR Klassik who stated: “Rachel Willis-Sørensen as Hélène, who brilliantly understands how to lend drama to her voice, which is by nature rather delicate.” This interpretation by Herbert Wernicke portrays the medieval uprising of the Sicilians against the French occupiers, unfolding a complex narrative of love, political intrigue, and the struggle for freedom. Ms. Willis-Sørensen shares the stage with Igor Golovatenko as Guido di Monforte, John Osborn as Arrigo and Erwin Schrott as Giovanni da Procida. Maestro Carlo Rizzi conducts.
Performances take place on January 13th, 16th, 19th and 22nd. Tickets and more information can be found here.
